Subcompact crossovers don’t have to cost less than $20,000. However, there are a lot of tiny and mid-size old and new SUV models available for less than $20,000. Others have more of an emphasis on off-road capabilities, while others focus on passenger and luggage space.

A few companies even target budget-conscious consumers by providing a decent quantity of entry-level equipment with attractive price tags. Here are seven of the greatest SUVs under 20000 dollars.

1) 2009-2011 Acura RDX

This is the first-generation Acura RDX small crossover SUV, which was basically a sportier and more premium version of the Honda CR-V at the time of its introduction. It has excellent handling and provides a comfortable ride. It’s powered by a four-cylinder engine that’s both powerful and efficient.

Retail pricing for the most basic models are as follows:

  • 2009: $8,000
  • 2010: $8,900
  • 2011: $10,000

2) Jeep Patriot (2016)

The 2016 Jeep Patriot is one of the most affordable off-road-capable SUVs on the market, according to the manufacturer.

Freedom-Drive II Off Road package can be ordered with the Jeep Patriot that installs low-range four-wheel drive and a host of additional all-terrain features.

A less forceful all-wheel drive system is available, of course, if you plan to use the car just on icy highways and drizzly country lanes and back roads. As an option, you can have a 2.4-liter, four-cylinder engine that can produce 172 horsepower in the Patriot.

The basic engine is rated at 23 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway, with a five-speed manual and a continuously variable automatic transmission available.

3) 2016 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport

Style and affordability come together in the 2016 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport. As a five-passenger vehicle, the Mitsubishi Outlander Sport can carry up to 49.5 cubic ft of goods when the back seats are folded forward, giving 25mpg in city driving and 31mpg on the highway when it is chosen with front-wheel drive.

The basic model’s 2.0-liter four-cylinder, 148-horsepower engine, along with its optional continuously variable automatic gearbox, contributes to the cheap cost at the pump.

The tiny SUV comes standard with a five-speed manual transmission and front-wheel drive, but the CVT and all-wheel drive may be added as options. The model is available in a price range of $13,000 – $20,500, having $15,800 as the average price.

4) 2016 Kia Sportage

With an average price of $16,800, the 2016 Kia Sportage is a stylish and well-equipped small SUV. Value-conscious consumers would undoubtedly agree that the spend is well worth it.

Kia Sportage has a long number of standard amenities, as well as an SX model that’s a lot of fun to get behind the wheel. 54.6 cubic ft. of total cargo capacity and two four-cylinder engines are available in the five-passenger Kia.

In terms of horsepower, there are two options: the 2.4-liter, 182-horsepower engine, and the 2.0-liter, 260-horsepower turbo.

The standard model Kia SUV gets 28 mpg on the interstate, while the turbocharged variant gets only 2 mpg less. All models come standard with a six-speed automatic gearbox and front-wheel drive, while all-wheel drive is available as an option.

5) 2009-2011 Honda Element

The Honda Element crossover may appear as it came straight out of the box, but it’s really rather big and practical, not to mention dependable, according to Consumer Reports, which gives it excellent points in this category.

Honda initially marketed the Element as a vehicle for outdoor enthusiasts, and it came with a variety of accessories that were both pet-friendly and geared toward the great outdoors. It is powered by the same four-cylinder engine that was used in the Honda Accord at the time.

The Element, in contrast to typical SUVs, has rear-hinged back doors as well as rear seats that can be folded up to the sides and removed completely. This SUV can be bought in a price range of $7,000 to $9,700.

6) Hyundai Tucson (2016)

Hyundai Tucson is another value-oriented Korean entry in our list of SUVs under 20,000 dollars, and its beautiful style is equaled only by the great handling qualities and the high quality of the interior it offers.

Despite the fact that the Hyundai Tucson isn’t as roomy inside as some of its rivals, its standard, 164-horsepower 2.0-ltr engine gives acceptable acceleration and fuel consumption of 31 mpg on the interstate, making it an excellent choice for families on a tight budget.

You can get up to 175 horsepower from the turbocharged 1.6-liter engine in Tucson, making it the best option for individuals who are ready to pay extra money. With either the six-speed manual or the seven-speed automatic, the basic engine may be had with either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive.

7) 2016 Jeep Compass

Even though it lacks the Grand Cherokee’s a luxury and payload space (62.7 cubic ft. in total vs 69 cubic feet), the 2016 Jeep Compass is substantially cheaper.

If you want to give your Jeep Compass real trail capability, you can add the Freedom-Drive II Off-Road package, which includes a four-wheel drive and related equipment.

The Patriot and Jeep Compass share similar powertrains and fuel economy (158 hp in the 2.0-ltr four-cylinder or 173hp in the 2.4-liter four-cylinder).

Inside the vehicle, the Compass has a greater level of amenities and equipment, while the lower-priced Frontier has less. There are three gearbox options for the Compass: a five-speed manual, a six-speed automatic, and a continuously variable automatic.
