Wearable technology is the future wave in tech innovation. Wearable technology is a category of electronic devices that can be worn on the body or attached to clothing and accessories like glasses and watches. There are many motion sensors that can be attached to these gadgets such as accelerometers, GPS, and gyroscopes.

Although wearable technology isn’t a new invention it’s just starting to be popular among consumers. Many companies are now investing in their own wearable tech products. Notable examples are the Google Glass, Apple Watch and Samsung Galaxy Gear. But there are many other gadgets and devices that you can discover.

5 Types of Wearable Technology

1. Virtual Reality Headsets

Although virtual reality headsets were popularized in the 1990s, they didn’t become very widespread until recent years when they were used for gaming.

These headsets can be worn as goggles. They create an artificial world by sending a video signal to each lens so that your eyes see the virtual environment as real. These VR glasses can track your head movements so that you can view objects in 3D and even move around your body freely if necessary.

Gamers who desire to be immersed in the Book of Ra online virtual world and other users who wish to move around and perform work without using their hands (such as changing into surgical scrubs) are already adopting this type of wearable technology. These devices are often used in military training, where soldiers can practice entering a building and learning new skills.

However, technology has its limitations. They don’t have a great resolution so it is difficult to read text on screens. They have excellent audio quality, but you will need headphones to hear the conversations around you.

You feel isolated when you are pulled from the real world to a virtual one. There is no escape for hours. We will see improvements over time which will lead us to an adoption boom in a few years which will blow our minds.

2. Fitness trackers

Fitness trackers can be worn on your wrist or anywhere else on your body. These fitness tracker devices typically measure steps, distance, calories burned, and the floors climbed.

Many of these devices come preloaded with additional features such as calorie counters and heart rate monitors. They can also sync wirelessly with mobile phones and computers, so you can track your progress while exercising or doing other activities throughout the day.

The Fitbit is a popular fitness tracker that can be worn on your wrist, or attached to your waistband. It can detect the difference between running and walking so it knows how active you are throughout the day.

3. Smartwatches

Smartwatches usually offer many of the same features and benefits as fitness trackers, but they also have additional benefits. You can use touchscreen displays to receive calls, texts and emails, while running or at work.

Other features include GPS tracking built in (so you don’t have to carry around your phone), notification alerts (so if someone calls you or emails you, they’ll notify you immediately), and even a heart-rate monitoring sensor (so you can maintain a healthy heart rate while working out).

4. Video Cameras

A video camera would be incomplete. The first wearable technology gadgets were actually worn on the wrist. They were similar to fitness trackers, but with video cameras. The first one was called the “wearable camcorder”, and it was released in 2007.

Sony, among others, has also developed wearable technology that can be used to record videos while running or biking. These cameras are great for anyone who wants to capture their runs for posterity or who rides bikes for fun.

5. Smart Clothing

Smart clothing is also part of the wearable technology market. One company produces T-shirts that track heart rate and other vital sign during exercise. The data is then posted on the internet for others to view. A line of shirts called Hexoskin, made in Montreal, monitors your breathing during exercise and sleep.

Smart clothing is also available for amputees. It has sensors that attach to the skin of those who have lost a limb. They can control robot arms or wheelchairs by simply thinking about it.

Pets can also benefit from wearable technology. FitBark, a California-based company, makes a dog harness that tracks the activity level of your four-legged friend. It allows owners to monitor how much their pet walks each day and the size of their meals.

This data can be used by the owner to adjust their pet’s diet or to set goals for different activities to make sure they get enough exercise each day.

Conclusion

As mentioned above, wearable tech refers to a type of tool or equipment that is worn and makes use of electricity to improve its effectiveness and capabilities in comparison to the non-worn version. They can also be used to record information such as images, videos and audio files.

The value of wearable technology trends is increasing rapidly, however, because they are useful in making people’s life easier, especially when it involves healthcare services.
