When was Bobbie Formula Recall? In June 2019, the Bobbie company specializes in milk-based powder companion formula was submerged by the FDA (Food & Drug Administration) due to violating federal agency’s requirements.

The FDA has since terminated this safety recall in April 2020.

Previously, before the recalled verge, the Bobbie Milk-Based Powder Companion Formula was manufactured in Germany and imported to the US.


But, in the present time, Bobbie baby formula recall isn’t connected with the newly formulated European-style innovation.

Even though the FDA restricts selling limited stocks of Bobbie baby formula, later in 2020, the authority recalled the manufacturing and delivery of the products.

What Bobbie Formula Was Recalled?

Might be wondering about the product name, packaging, and lot numbers that the FDA announced the recall.

Following are summary of the products recalled in 2019:

  • Product Name: Bobbie Milk-Based Powder Companion Formula, Net wt. 14.1 oz (400g).
  • Packaging: Styling in brown and green cardboard boxes (2, 4, or 8 units per box) with the bobbie logo.
  • Lot numbers: Codes on the product of concern are; L6236501Z001; Use By: 9.15.2020; L6236501Z002; Use By: 9.15.2020; L6236501Z003; Use By: 9.16.2020; L6236501Z004; Use By: 9.16.2020
  • Dates: Shipped between the dates of May 12, 2019, and May 30, 2019

In addition to this, these recalled products were sold in the San Francisco Bay Area (California)

Why Was The Bobbie Formula Recalled?

There was a basic reason for the Bobbie formula recalled. As mentioned earlier, the product’s iron content is only 0.7 mg per serving that conclude is lower than the FDA recommendation of 1 mg per 100 kcal.

From another perspective, human bodies don’t produce iron. Taking inadequate iron levels from their formula, babies can suffer from iron-deficiency anemia.

Other than Iron, Biotin, Copper, Iodine, Linoleic acid, Manganese, Niacin, Thiamine, Vitamin B6, Vitamin C, and Vitamin K are also essential nutrients in baby formula.


Is The New European-Style Bobbie Formula Safe?

Yes, the company’s practice of producing Formula using European-style standards is safe and FDA-approved.

Bobbie currently has two formula products:

  • Bobbie Organic Infant Formula
  • Bobbie Organic Gentle Infant Formula

Considering the facts, both have 1.2 mg of iron per 100 kcal, meeting US (FDA) and EU standards.

Is Bobbie Baby Formula FDA-Regulated?

In our previous Bobbie formula review blog, we concluded that the product line of Bobbie formula is all FDA-approved and certified by many authorities.

Talking about the fact, the authority was approved by the Food & Drug Administration in 2020, later the year when German-standard powder formula was recalled.

FDA Requirements For Infant Formulas

From the verdict of the FDA glossary, some of the necessary specifications are as per 100 kcal of baby formula.

  • Protein: 1.8 g to 4.5 g
  • Iron: ≥0.15 mg
  • Calcium: ≥ 60 mg
  • Iodine: 5 mcg to 75 mcg
  • Fats: 3.3 g to 6.0 g (≥ 30% of calories)
  • Folic acid (folacin): ≥4 mcg
  • Magnesium: ≥6 mg
